Inhalation Amount To Use

Tissue or Handkerchief Method

Put the essential oil onto a paper tissue or cotton handkerchief, and sniff from it when required.

 

2 years and over only 1 to 2 drops

Pillow Method

This method is usually used to assist breathing or sleeping. Put the essential oil on a corner of the pillow, on the underside, away from the eyes.

Some essential oils stain material, so use an old pillowcase.

Alternatively, put the essential oil on a cotton ball and put it inside the pillowcase, away from the eyes.

Amount To Use 

 

 

6 months and over 1 to 2 drops 

P.J.s Method (Pajamas 

Before your child is ready to go to bed, put a drop of essential oil on the pajamas and allow it to dry.

Put it at the back of the collar or on the inside of the chest.

Amount To Use 

6 months and over 1 drop

Lotions Creams and Gels 

Essential oils can be diluted in materials other than vegetable oils. Use non-perfumed lotion, cream, or gel, made of natural materials.

Add the required number of essential oil drops suitable for the age of the child, and mix well.

Amount To Use

Dilute in 1 ounce of lotion.

Newborns              0-1 drop

2-6 months            0-1 drop

6-12 months          1-2 drops

1-4 years               1-5 drops

5-7 years               3-6 drops

8-12 years             5-9 drops

12 years and over  5-10 drops 

 

 

Room Sprays

Put the warm water in a new plant-mister, and add the essential oil. Shake it vigorously, then spray high into the air.

Avoid spraying over anything that could be damaged by the water droplets falling on it, such as wooden furniture or delicate materials.

Amount To Use

3 months and over only. 10 drops to each half pint lukewarm water.

Showers

Only use the essential oil of chamomile, lavender, or geranium with this method.

Put the essential oil on a dry wash cloth, wet it thoroughly with water, then wipe the wash cloth over the body while the shower is running.

Avoid the face and genital areas. 

 

Amount To Use

5 years and over only 1-2 drops

Sponging Down 

Put 2 pints of warm or lukewarm water in a bowl. Add the essential oil, and swish around well. Use water to sponge down your child.

Amount To Use

1-5 years               1-2 drops

6-10 years             1-3 drops

11 and over            2-4 drops

Wash 

Put the water in a bottle, add the essential oils, and shake well. Then pour through a paper coffee-filter and re-bottle.

This prepared wash is useful for washing infected or other area, such as cuts and grazes.

 

Amount To Use

1 year and over only:

20 drops in a pint of warm water.

Water Bowl 

Put a pint of boiling water into a heat-proof bowl and take it to the room where it is needed. Add the essential oil to the steaming water.

Place the bowl in an area of the room where children and animals cannot reach it.

Amount To Use

To a pint of water add:

Up to 2 years                    1-2 drops

2-5 years                          1-3 drops

6-10 years                        1-4 drops

11 years and over              1-5 drops
